Fairfield Maritime Consulting

Fairfield Maritime Consulting Limited predominantly provides a “no cure no pay” bespoke resource for shipowners and their liability (H&M & P&I) insurers for their recovery claims arising against negligent third parties.

Andy has over 40 years experience in the shipping business, starting with a 7 year seafaring career; sailing as 3rd – Chief Officer on both foreign going and short sea vessels, with experience on bulkers, tankers, general cargo and reefer vessels.

Following completion of a maritime studies degree, he joined the Steamship Mutual P&I Club and then the Ocean Marine P&I Club, where he was a Syndicate Head and Director.

He then worked as a consultant for leading international shipping solicitors, Norton Rose, before returning to the P&I field in the specialised area of P&I claims run-off, first on behalf of various former shipowner members of the Ocean Marine Mutual, and then as the P&I claims run-off manager at Markel International Ltd, the inheritors of the Syndicate 329 at Lloyd’s (Jonathan L. Jones & Others) fixed premium P&I facility.

In early 2004, Andy was one of the three founding Owners/Directors of Pequod Associates Ltd; which has since grown to become one of the largest cargo and marine liability recovery agents. At the end of 2022, Andy decided to establish his own consultancy firm, focussing on the servicing of his core business of marine liability claim recoveries and consultancy.

Andy’s speciality is H&M, P&I and FD&D related matters, with particular emphasis on claims and disputes arising from; collisions, machinery failures, GA events, C/P and marine liability insurance policy disputes. He has spoken at seminars in London, Turkey, Singapore and the Philippines on P&I and marine liability claim issues.
